(2)If a ship is lost or abandoned, the master or owner thereof shall if practicable and as soon as possible, deliver or transmit to the shipping master at her port of registry the official log book, duly completed up to the time of the loss or abandonment.Note. - (i) If the master of a ship or any person fails without reasonable cause to comply with the provisions of the above sections, he shall be liable to a fine to the extent shown below, vide Section 436(2) of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 :-(a)S. 214(2) - Fine which may extend to one-hundred rupees.(b)S. 215(1) - Fine which may extend to fifty rupees, if no other penalty is provided in the Act.(c)S. 215(2) - Fine which may extend to three-hundred rupees.(d)S. 216 - Fine which may extend to two-hundred rupees.(e)S. 217 - Fine which may extend to one-hundred rupees.(ii)If any person willfully destroys or mutilates or renders illegible any entry in any official log book or willfully makes or procures to be made or assists in making a false or fraudulent entry in or omissions from an official log book, he shall be liable to imprisonment which may extend to one year.EXTRACTS FROM THE MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT, 1958 RELATING TO MASTERS AND SEAMENSpecial provisions with regard to agreement with crew of Indian ships
