UPON hearing the counsel the Court made the following
O R D E R
Mr. Mathew Cherian, Amicus (Help Age India) has given us a four page note which has been handed over to the learned Additional Solicitor General. In the note, certain suggestions and the way forward have been indicated. The suggestions given are with regard to:-
i) Old Age pensions for the elderly; ii) creation of infrastructure and facilities for elderly;
iii) implementation of programmes and schemes;
iv) implementation of National Policy / creation of Advisory Bodies.
We are of the view that the existing schemes such as the National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP) and Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP) and the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) are of 1990s and they need to be reconsidered and revised.
The learned ASG says that the process of revision and reconsideration of the schemes is already underway.
List the matter on 17th August, 2017 by which time the Union of India will file a status report with regard to the suggestions given by Mr. Mathew Cherian, Amicus (Help Age India) and also an update on the proposed revision of the schemes and programmes.
