This petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is for issuance of a writ in the nature of certiorari for quashing the list of Vimukat Jatis/denotified tribes, issued vide letter dated 27.01.2000 and all other subsequent lists vide which, 'Mahatams' were excluded from the said list. Further a direction is sought to be issued to the respondents to include the Mahtams/Rai Sikhs belonging to four erstwhile Police Stations of Punjab (Vimukat Jatis) in the list of Vimukat Jatis/denotified tribes.
Grievance of the petitioners is that the issue with regard to issuing instructions for including Mahtam (Rai Sikhs) in the list of Scheduled Caste (Vimukat Jatis) in two police stations of Mamdot and Fazilka, District Ferozepur, has been pending before the Punjab Government despite the orders dated 13.06.2011 (Annexure P-9) passed by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. Thereafter, the petitioners have made representation dated 27.08.2012 (Annexure P-12) to the Chief Minister, Punjab.
