- To prevent the occurrence of plague the systematic destruction of rats, more specially in grain godown and food stores, should be carried out throughout the year. In the event of dead rats being found in any building, the latter should be vacated at once and a dead rat despatched to the nearest Medical Officer of Health for examination and report. The measures, in respect of the isolation and treatment of the patient, the evacuation of infected barracks and the disinfection of clothing are similar to those detailed in the case of small-pox, but on the appearance of plague in a jail, the staff and prisoners should be inoculated with anti-plague vaccine, a supply of which can be obtained from the District Medical Officer of Health.
