SHRI KASHIRAM RANA (SURAT): Maintenance and Repair of Shamlaji-Ahmedabad-Vadodara-Surat-Mumbai section of National Highway till June-2002 and Porbandar- Junagadh-RajkotBamanbore-Samkhyali-Palanpur-Abu Road Section of National Highway till May, 2005 was undertaken by State Government as Agency of Government of India. Thereafter, these roads have been transferred to NHAI. Till the time highways were with State Government, within allocated funds, highways were maintained in good condition and no complaints were received. NHAI has started work of four laning but proper attention is not being given towards maintenance & repair of existing roads. Traffic safety during construction is totally ignored by contractors of NHAI. Government of Gujarat has received lot of complaints from Hon'ble MPs, MLAs and public about bad condition of roads in past as well as after current monsoon. In spite of representation at various levels to NHAI, condition of roads is not brought back to the standard of National Highways, due to which road users are facing lot of difficulties in moving along the roads. This also results into wastage of time and fuel.
So, I urge upon the Government to complete the work of maintenance and repair of roads under NHAI Jurisdiction as soon as possible.
