Section 70(3) in Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act, 1920
(3)[ Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-sections (1) and (2), the [State Government] [This sub-section was added by section 3 of the Madras District Municipalities (Second Amendment) Act, 1934 (Madras Act IV of 1935).] shall have power to fix or alter the number, designations and grades of, and the salaries, fees and allowances payable to, the officers and servants of any municipal council or any class of such officers and servants; and it shall not be open to the municipal council to vary the number, designations, grades, salaries, fees or allowances as so fixed or altered, except with the previous sanction of the [State Government] [The words 'Provincial Government' were substituted for the words 'Local Government' by the Adaptation Order of 1937 and the word 'State' was substituted for 'Provincial' by the Adaptation Order of 1950.]].]
