(1)The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed in accordance with the provisions of this subsection. For the selection of the Vice-Chancellor, there shall be a Committee of three persons, two of whom shall be persons not connected with the University or any college or institution maintained, affiliated or recognised by the University, one to be nominated by the Executive Council and the other by the Academic Council and the third person shall be nominated by the Chancellor who shall also appoint one of the three as Chairman of such Committee The Committee shall select not less than three persons and shall report its selection to the Chancellor. The Chancellor may appoint one of the persons so selected to be Vice-Chancellor. If the Chancellor does not approve any of the persons so selected he may call for a fresh selection.(2)[ The Vice-Chancellor shall, subject to the terms and conditions of his contract of service, ordinarily bold office for a term of three years from the date on which he enters upon his office and shall, on expiration of his terms of office, be eligible for reappointment to that office only for a second term.The Chancellor may, by order,.(a)direct that notwithstanding the expiration of his term, the Vice-Chancellor may continue to hold office; or(b)appoint any other suitable person to hold the office of the Vice-Chancellor, for such term not exceeding six months in the aggregate, as he may specify from time to time in his order:Provided that, the Vice-Chancellor, so continuing or the person so appointed, to hold the office of the Vice-Chancellor shall cease to hold such office on the date on which the person appointed as Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) enters upon his office.] [Substituted for the original by Maharashtra 14 of 1984 S. 2(a).](3)[***********************] [Deleted by Maharashtra 14 of 1984, S. 2(b).](4)[ Where -(a)any temporary vacancy in the office of the Vice Chancellor occurs by reason of leave, illness of other cause; or(b)any vacancy in the office of the Vice-Chancellor occurs by reason of death, resignation or otherwise and it cannot be filled expeditiously in accordance with the provisions ,of subsection (1) the Chancellor may appoint any suitable person, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, if any, to act as the Vice-Chancellor, for such term not exceeding six month in the, aggregate as he may ,specify from time to time in his order.](5)[ The Vice-Chancellor shall be a whole-time salaried officer of the University.
