Section 2(f) in The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Act, 1978
(f)"local authority" means-(i)the Municipal Corporation of [Chennai] [Substituted for the word 'Madras' by the City of Madras (Alteration of Name) Act, 1996 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996).]; or(ii)a municipal council, constituted under the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act, 1920 (Tamil Nadu Act V of 1920) or a panchayat union council or a panchayat constituted under the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1958 (Tamil Nadu Act XXXV of 1958)2, or(iii)a township committee constituted under the Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act, 1920 (Tamil Nadu Act V of 1920) or the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1958 (Tamil Nadu Act XXXV of 1958) or under any other law for the time being in force, or(iv)the Tamil Nadu State Housing Board constituted under section 3 of the Tamil Nadu State Housing Board Act, 1961 (Tamil Nadu Act 17 of 1961) (hereinafter referred to as the Tamil Nadu State Housing Board), or(v)the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board constituted under section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Act, 1970 (Tamil Nadu Act 4 of 1971) (hereinafter referred to as the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board), or(vi)the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board established under section 34 of the Tamil Nadu Slum Areas (Improvement and Clearance) Act, 1971 (Tamil Nadu Act 11 of 1971) (hereinafter referred to as the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board), or(vii)the [Chennai] [Substituted for the word 'Madras' by the City of Madras (Alteration of Name) Act, 1996 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996).] Metropolitan Development Authority established under section 9-A of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 (Tamil Nadu Act 35 of 1972), (hereinafter referred to as the [Chennai] [Substituted for the word 'Madras' by the City of Madras (Alteration of Name) Act, 1996 (Tamil Nadu Act 28 of 1996).] Metropolitan Development Authority);
