Section 60 in Maharashtra Hereditary Offices Act, 1874

60. [ Provincial Government may direct the forfeiture of a watan.] [Section 60 was substituted by Section 13 of the Bombay Hereditary Offices (Amendment) Act, 1886 (Bombay 5 of 1886). As to the local modification of Section 60, see Bombay 6 of 1887.] - When any representative watandar or any deputy or substitute appointed by him is convicted by a criminal Court inferior to a Court of Session of any offence in the discharge of his official duties, or of any of the offences specified in the second schedule or of the abetment of any such offence, and such conviction is not subsequently reversed or quashed, the [Provincial Government] [The words 'Provincial Government' were substituted for the words 'Government Council', by the Adaptation of Indian Laws Order in Council.] may, [* * *] [The words 'direct the forfeiture of the whole or of any part of any watan in which he has an interest. Such forfeiture may be either absolute or for such period as the Governor in Council thinks fit 'were deleted and Clauses (a) and (b) were inserted by Bombay 11 of 1925, Section 2.]

(a)[ if the offence be committed in the discharge or his official duties or be any of those enumerated in Schedule II (2) to (6), direct the forfeiture of the life interest of the person convicted or if he be not the representative watandar also of the representative watandar; [The words 'direct the forfeiture of the whole or of any part of any watan in which he has an interest. Such forfeiture may be either absolute or for such period as the Governor in Council thinks fit 'were deleted and Clauses (a) and (b) were inserted by Bombay 11 of 1925, Section 2.]
(b)if the offence is as is described in Chapter VI of the Indian Penal Code, Direct the forfeiture of the whole or of any part of any watan in which he has an interest. Such forfeiture may be either absolute or for such period as the [Provincial Government] thinks fit.]
