SHRI BALBHADRA MAJHI (NABARANGPUR): Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts are parts of undivided Koraput district. This area is situated on the Eastern Ghat and is naturally a mountainous terrain. In the whole of the area, there is only one Radio Station, situated at Jeypore. Because of its vastness and mountainous terrain it is not able to cover the whole area. The machinery is also as old as of 1964 which is affecting quality of service. These machinery require replacement/upgradation/repair.
There is large shortage of manpower. As against sanctioned strength of 140, only 55 officers and staff are posted. As a result of this, new proposals are not taken up. There is a need to fill up the posts and promote tribal programmes.
It is learnt that there is a proposal for establishing four transmission centers at Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Rayagada. Early commissioning of these centers will be of great help to the people of this area which is affected by Left Wing extremism.
