Seventeenth Loksabha an> Title: Regarding land rights issue of cultivators in Gudalur and Pandalur Taluka of Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu -laid.
SHRI A. RAJA (NILGIRIS): I would like to draw the kind attention of the Government towards the long pending issue of unsettled position of lands in Gudalur and Pandalur taluk of the Nilgiris District. The lands are cultivated by small cultivators as tenants, Lessees under Pattam, Verumpattam, Kanapattam and various other types. The aggrieved cultivators have been approaching the Government and statutory bodies for their title, basic amenities, other fundamental rights for many decades. Most of the Janmam lands were cultivated for decades together by tribals as well as non-tribals. The non-tribals are worried about their right as the Government Order is giving emphasis only for tribals. Considering the nature of holding, the entitlement of tribals and non—tribals is to be considered.
I, therefore, request the Hon’ble Minister for speedy and effective relief for 21000 families living in 35000 acres of Janmam lands who are holding and toiling in the lands for years together.
