Seventeenth Loksabha > Title: Request forstoppage of at least one of the Rajdhani trains three days a week at Malda Town, West Bengal.
SHRI ABU HASEM KHAN CHOWDHURY (MALDAHA DAKSHIN): Hon. Speaker, Sir, through you, I would like to draw the attention of the Railway Ministry.
I am a Member of Parliament from Malda, West Bengal. It is not only astonishing, but also very sad to note that Malda does not have goods-train connectivity to Delhi. When we talk about Malda, we include the surrounding areas of Murshidabad, Raiganj, Balurghat and a part of Jharkhand.
There are two Rajdhani trains, which pass through Malda. However, they do not go through Malda Town Railway Station. Both these Rajdhanis go to Katihar in Bihar, which is 50 kilometers away from Malda. The people of Malda and the surrounding regions would appreciate if the Railway Ministry could explore the possibility of halting at least one of the Rajdhanis three days a week at Malda Town.
Since a lot of people of the region have shown their interest for the Rajdhani to ply through Malda, halting Rajdhani at Malda would be of great help. Moreover, it would also generate financial resources for the Railways too. Therefore, we would appreciate if you could consider our humble request.
