- The University shall have the following powers, namely:-(a)to provide for instruction in various branches of learning as the University may deem fit;(b)to make provision for (1) research, and (2) advancement of knowledge and dissemination of the findings of research and knowledge;(c)to institute and confer degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions;(d)to confer honorary degrees or other distinctions;(e)to admit colleges, institutions and institutes not maintained by the University, to the privileges of the University, and to withdraw all or any of these privileges;(f)to confer autonomous status on a college, institution or department, as the case may be, subject to such conditions as may be laid down in this Act or as may be prescribed by the Statutes and to withdraw the autonomy;(g)to co-operate with other University and authorities in such manner and for such purpose as the University may determine;(h)to institute teaching, research and other posts required by the University and to make appointment thereto;(i)to create administrative, ministerial and other necessary posts and make appointments thereto;(j)to institute and award fellowships (including travelling fellowships), scholarships and prizes;(k)to institute and maintain residential accommodation for the students of the University;(l)to demand and receive such fees and other charges as may be prescribed;(m)to supervise and control the residential accommodation for students and to regulate the discipline of the students of the University and to make arrangements for promoting their health and welfare; and(n)to do all such acts and things, whether incidental to the powers aforesaid or not, as may be requisite in order to further the objects of the University.
