Section 8 in The Merchant Shipping (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Rules, 1998
8. Standards of medical fitness. - (1) Every candidate for certification as a seafarer shall provide satisfactory proof of the following documents to the Chief Examiner concerned, namely:-
(a)a valid passport;(b)a certificate showing the date of birth; and(c)a medical fitness certificate including eyesight and hearing as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 1986.(2)The standards of medical fitness for the candidates shall be the same as given in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 1986.
