(4)[ In the event of the occurrence of any vacancy in the office of the Vice-Chancellor by reason of his death, resignation, expiration of his term or otherwise, the Chancellor may appoint any person to act as the Vice-Chancellor for a period not exceeding one year or until a new Vice-Chancellor appointed under sub-section (1) enters upon his office, whichever is earlier.
