SHRI M. CHANDRAKASI (CHIDAMBARAM): Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity to highlight the issue of my constituency. With the blessing of hon. Amma, the former CM of Tamil Nadu I would like to draw the attention of the Government to the issue of Distance Education programme of Annamalai University. The Annamalai University in Chidambaram was established by Tamil Nadu Act of 1929 and it is one of the oldest universities. This university is well known all over India for its service to academic world.

SHRI M. CHANDRAKASI: Sir, considering the University’s special status, long academic experience, benefits to student community and the fact that the University is managed with the State fund, the Centre must facilitate the expansion of the University and permit to continue Distance Education programme all over the country as a special case. I urge the hon. Minister of Human Resource Development to accord necessary approval to Annamalai University for the continuation of Distance Education programme all over India.
