(23)"Drain" means a line of pipes including all fittings and equipments, such as manholes, inspection chambers, traps, gullies and floor traps used for the drainage of a building, or a number of buildings, or yards, appurtenant to buildings, within the same curtilage, and shall include open channels used for carrying surface water;
