14. Remuneration and facilities of Mayor, Chairman, Deputy Mayor, members of the Mayor-in-Council [Leader of the Opposition] and members of Committee.] [Words inserted by West Bengal Act 30 of 1997.] -
The Mayor, the Chairman, the Deputy Mayor, the members of the Mayor-in-Council [, Leader of the Opposition] [Words inserted by West Bengal Act 30 of 1997.] and the members of the Committee constituted in accordance with the provisions of this Chapter [, except the Ward Committee constituted under section 11A,] [Words, figures and letter inserted by West Bengal Act 30 of 1997.] shall be given such remuneration and facilities as may be prescribed.[Explanation. -] ['Explanation' inserted by West Bengal Act 30 of 1997.] "Leader of the Opposition", in relation to the Corporation, shall mean that Councillor of the Corporation who is, for the time being, the Leader of the party in opposition to the Corporation having the greatest numerical strength and recognised as such by the Mayor :Provided that where there are two or more parties in opposition to the Corporation having the same numerical strength, the Mayor shall, having regard to the status of the parties, recognise anyone of the Leaders of such parties as the Leader of the Opposition for the purposes of this section and such recognition shall be final and conclusive.
