Section 372 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964

372. Uniform.

- The uniform to be worn by officers shall be of the same pattern as for officers of the Indian Navy but with the following differences :
IndianNaval Reserve and Indian Naval Volunteer Reserve Officersholding Permanent Reserve Commissions other than those employedon aviation duties. Asfor Indian Navy Officers, but with the letter 'R' in the curl.During mobilized service, Qualified Officers shall omit the 'R'from the curl.
(ii)Indian Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers holding PermanentReserve Commissions employed on aviation duties. Asfor Indian Naval Officers, but with the letter 'A' in the curl.During mobilized service, Qualified Officers shall omit 'A'from the curl. Midshipmen of the Indian Naval Volunteer Reserveemployed on aviation duties shall wear the letter 'A' on thetwist instead of on the cuff of the sleeve. During mobilizedservice. Qualified Officers shall omit the letter 'A' on thetwist.
(iii)Officers holding temporary commissions in the Indian NavalReserve. (a)The distinctive stripe of gold lace round the sleeves of thecoat and on epaulettes is substituted by two waved lines ofgold lace each of one half the width prescribed for officers ofthe Indian Navy one line superimposed upon the other so that1/8 inch of blue cloth shows between the curves. The halfstripe, however, is a single straight line of 1/8 inch goldlace. In war time, on becoming Qualified Officers the navy curlwill be replaced by a plain curl as for Indian Navy Officers.
  (b)The white patches and notched holes of twist in the case ofMidshipmen will be as for Midshipmen in the Indian Navy exceptthat for officers holding temporary appointment, the notchedholes of twist are to be waved instead of straight.
(iv)Officers holding temporary commissions in the Indian NavalVolunteer Reserve (a)The distinctive stripe of gold lace round the sleeves of thecoat and on epaulettes is substituted by a stripe of waved lineof gold 3/8 inch in width. The half stripe, however, is a singlestraight line of gold lace 1/8 inch in width. In war time onbecoming Qualified Officers the Navy curl shall be replaced by aplain curl as for Indian Navy Officers.
  (b)The white patches and notched holes of twist for Midshipmenshall be as in the Indian Naval Reserve.
(v)Honorary Officers. Asfor Indian Navy Officer, but with the letter 'H' in the curl.
