Section 19 in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964

19.

Indian and other important Commonwealth and Foreign authorities shall be saluted when in their official capacities as laid down in the following table:TABLE OF SALUTES

Asthe occasion arises Althoughaccording to international usage a gun salute comprises of 21guns, a larger number of guns has been prescribed for thePresident on account of the existence in India of certainex-Rulers of former States carrying a privilege of 21 guns. Forall international purposes, however, a gun salute shall consistof 21 gun only.Nogun salutes will ordinary be fired on the President's visit toshore establishments.

V Ambassadorextraordinary and Pleni-potentiary 19 Inthe case of Indian diplomatic and Consular representativesabroad, in the ports of the countries to which they areaccredited.(ii)Inthe case of foreign and Consuls accredited to India when payingfromal visits to Indian Naval Ships, Ship in Ports in India.

Explanation. 1 - Gun salutes will be given on the assumption and relinquishment of Office by the Governors [* * *] [Omitted by S.R.O. 17-E, dated 5th July, 1967] where Artillery units are available locally or within a distance of 50 miles. Indian Naval Ships will not fire these salutes. 'The table is for information only.
