Section 14 in Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969

14. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

(1)There may be a Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the University and shall be appointed by the Chancellor in consultation with the Pro-Chancellor in the manner provided for the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor. The term of office of the Pro-ViceChancellor shall ordinarily be the same as that of the Vice-Chancellor and he shall receive such monthly salary not exceeding Rs. 2,000 and other facilities as the Chancellor may determine :[Provided that on the expiry of the term of his office, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall be eligible for re-appointment for such term as the Chancellor may, in consultation with the Pro-Chancellor determine :Provided further that the Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall not be removed from his office except by order of the Chancellor passed in consultation with the Pro-Chancellor, on the ground of misbehaviour or incapacity or if it appears to the Chancellor that the continuance of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor in office is detrimental to the interests of the University, after due inquiry by such person who is or has been a Judge of a High Court to be nominated by the Chancellor, in consultation with the Pro-Chancellor in which the Pro-Vice-Chancellor shall have an opportunity of making his representation against such removal.] [Substituted by Act XXVI of 1973, s. 3.]
(2)Where any temporary vacancy in the office of Pro-Vice-Chancellor occurs by reasons of resignation, illness, leave or other cause, the ViceChancellor shall report the same to the Chancellor through the Pro-Chancellor alongwith his recommendations and the Chancellor may make such arrangements for carrying on the duties of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor as he may consider fit.
