(4)to hold examination for, and to grant and to confer degrees, diploma and other academic distinctions to and on persons who -(a)shall have pursued a course of study as prescribed; or(b)shall have carried on research in the University or in an institution recognized in this behalf by the University under the conditions laid down in the Statutes;
