SHRI KARADI SANGANNA AMARAPPA (KOPPAL): Respected Chairman, Sir, thank you very much for giving me an opportunity to raise an important matter of national interest. I would like to request for establishment of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) at Koppal.
India is a nation having prospects in agriculture. About 70 per cent of Indian population resides in villages. The main occupation of people residing in the villages is agriculture and allied services. Food security and food safety is one of the foremost concerns of our country. We have made remarkable provisions in the Budget of the Fiscal 2014-15. An amount of Rs. 100 crore is set aside for Agro-tech Infrastructure Fund.
In this context, through you, I would like to draw the attention of the Minister of Science and Technology, and the Minister of Agriculture towards establishing a Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) at Koppal, Karnataka. My constituency, Koppal is a huge producer of rice, maize, cotton, pomegranate, grapes, mangoes and several other agricultural products. Pomegranate is cultivated in an area of 14,649 hectares in Karnataka with an annual production of 1.46 lakh tonnes.

SHRI KARADI SANGANNA AMARAPPA : My demand is to establish the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) at Koppal.
Koppal stands at second place in the field of agricultural production among all the districts in the State of Karnataka. Thank you.
