Section 89(a) in Police Regulations, Bengal , 1943
(a)Police officers may not carry canes or stick other than regulation lathis while on duty, unless ordered to do so by an officer of or above the rank of Inspector. Such orders shall be given only if the officer considers that the occasion does not require the use of lathis : and the use of canes is subject to the same restrictions as other form of force.
