Section 7 in The Asansol Municipal Corporation Act, 1990.

7. Terms of office of Mayor and Chairman. -

(1)A Mayor or a Chairman, as the case may be-
(a)shall cease to hold office as such forthwith if he ceases to be a member of the Corporation;
(b)may, at any time, by giving notice in writing to the Corporation, resign his office and such resignation shall take effect from such date as may be specified in the notice or, if no such date is specified, from the date of its receipt by the Corporation;
(c)may be removed from office by a resolution carried by a majority of the total number of elected members of the Corporation at a special meeting of the Corporation called for this purpose upon a requisition made in writing by not less than one-third of the elected members of the Corporation:
Provided that no such resolution shall be moved before the expiry of six months from the date of assumption of office by a Mayor or a Chairman, as the case may be:Provided further that if such resolution is not carried by a majority of the total number of elected members of the Corporation, no further resolution for the removal of the Mayor or the Chairman, as the case may be, shall be moved before the expiry of a period of six months from the date on which the former resolution was moved.
(2)Notwithstanding the provisions of sub-section (1), except when an order of [dissolution has been made under the provisions of this Act, the Mayor or the Chairman, as the case may be, whose office becomes vacant by reason of the provisions of sub-section (1), shall continue to hold office as such until his successor, elected under the provisions of this Chapter, enters upon his office] [Word substituted by W.B.
