Section 9(4)(i) in Tamil Nadu Hill Areas (Preservation of Trees) Rules, 1957

(i)"field crop" shall mean crops of short duration mostly less than a year raised in cultivated fields. This will also include plantation crops like tea, coffee, cardamom and plantations whose management involves working of the intervening soil at intervals;
