KUMARI SUSHMITA DEV (SILCHAR): Hon. Chairperson, Sir, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity.
Sir, I would like to bring to the notice of this House, through your good Office, that the Cachar Paper Mill, a unit of Hindustan Paper Corporation, is located in the southern part of Assam, in the neighbouring district, Hailakandi, and my district being Cachar. The only source of coal to run this heavy industry is from Meghalaya. On the 19th of May, 2014, the National Green Tribunal has banned all the coal mining in Meghalaya because it has been alleged that it has been conducted in an unscientific manner. Now, the situation is such that if this coal supply is not resumed from Meghalaya to this industry, this industry may be closed down by the end of this month.
I would request to the Union Government and also to the hon. Minister of Heavy Industries to take a special initiative so that coal may be lifted from Meghalaya, from the stock that is already lying there as permitted by the Tribunal.
