Section 7(2)(d) in The Special Rules for the Mulit-storeyed and Public Buildings, 1974

(d)Exits shall be so located that the travel distance on the floor shall not exceed 22 meters in the case of residential and public buildings and 30 meters in the case of commercial, industrial and other buildings. There shall be at least two exits serving every floor and at least one of them shall lead to the staircase.
