SHRI M. CHANDRAKASI (CHIDAMBARAM): Hon. Speaker, Madam, I wish to draw the attention of the Government to the need for undertaking certain Railway works in the Chidambaram region of my constituency.… (Interruptions)
The people of Chidambaram city have been demanding for modernization of Chidambaram Railway Station for a very long time. The Railway Station in the city lacks minimum essential amenities. The Station does not have even toilets and drinking water supply points. There is no restroom for passengers from far-away places. Hence, there is an urgent need for upgradation of the Railway Station and provision of all passenger facilities in the Station. Moreover, the work for strengthening of railway line at Killai sector remains pending for a long time. During the rainy season, the railway line gets affected by water-logging and flooding due to excess water flow in the Vellaru River. Speedy completion of work for strengthening of railway line in this sector is necessary for smooth flow of traffic on this line.
Chidambaram is known all over India for tourism, pilgrimage and education. Our famous Yoga Guru Patanjali lived in this town and popularized the art of yoga.
Considering these factors, the hon. Railway Minister may be requested to give instructions to carry out the above mentioned railway works in Chidambaram at the earliest.
