DR. LORHO PFOZE (OUTER MANIPUR): Hon. Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity to raise a very important matter of public interest. We came across a story on the 4th of December in the town of Oting in Nagaland. It was an unknown village but because of this very unexpected cruel brutal murder of 14 civilians in that city in the State at the time of celebration and festivities, this town came into the news. The North-Eastern States of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have suffered much from the imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
Too many lives have been lost because of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. There have been too many murders; there are too many widows; too many have been raped and there have been too many human rights violations.
I request the Government to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
