Section 131 in Criminal Courts - Rules and Orders

131. The following instructions for the dress of officers and soldiers appearing before a Criminal Court (other than a Court established under military law) have been approved by Governor-General in Council:-

(a)An officer or soldier required to attend a Court in his official capacity should appear in uniform with sword or side-arms. Attendance in an official capacity includes attendance-
(i)as a witness, when evidence has to be given of matters which came under the cognizance of the officer or soldier in his military capacity;
(ii)by an officer for the purpose of watching a case on behalf of a soldier or soldiers under his command.
(b)An officer or soldier required to attend a Court otherwise than in his official capacity may appear either in plain clothes or uniform.
(c)An officer or soldier shall not wear his sword or side-arms if he appears in the character of an accused person or under military arrest or if the presiding officer of the Court thinks it necessary to require the surrender of his arms, in which case statement of the reasons for making the order shall be recorded by the presiding officer, and, if the military authorities so request, forwarded for the information of His Excellency the Commander-in-Chief.
(d)Fire-arms shall in no circumstances be taken into Court.
