Section 58A(a) in The M.P. Irrigation Act, 1931

(a)the expression "new canal" means :

(i)a canal, the construction of which has been undertaken on or after the 1st April, 1951; or

(ii)such existing canal, the improvement or extension of which has been undertaken on or after the said date;
