(1)The keys of the jail shall, when not in use or in the personal custody of any officer of the jail, be kept in a locked receptacle to be kept for the purpose at the main gate, and the key of such receptacle shall, by day, be retained by the head warder, and by night, by the patrolling officer for the time being on duty.
