12A. [ Summary disposal of certain cases. [Inserted by Act 31 of 1969 w.e.f. 20.11.1969]
(1)A court taking cognizance of an offence under sub-clause (ii) of clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 12 shall state upon the summons to be served on the accused person that he may by a specified date prior to the hearing of the charge, plead guilty to the charge by registered letter and remit to the court such sum not exceeding two hundred rupees as the court may specify.(2)Where an accused person pleads guilty and remits the sum specified under sub-section (1), the court may proceed to hear and dispose of the case in the absence of the accused, whether or not the prosecutor is also absent in like manner as if both parties had appeared and the accused had pleaded guilty.]
