Section 306(1) in The Naval Ceremonial, Conditions Of Service And Miscellaneous Regulations, 1964
(1)A break in service not exceeding 3 years (5 years in the case of reservists) if due to any cause other than desretion, imprisonment, or misconduct, shall not break the continuity of "VG." character or of recommendations for the Medal.
