Finance Minister in his Budget Speech for 2013-14 has proposed to set up the Bharatiya Mahila Bank Limited.… (Interruptions) This Bank has started its operation in November, 2013. Certainly it is a step towards the empowerment of women. As of now, it has the corpus of Rs.1,000 crore with only seven branches in major cities.… (Interruptions) There is a need to open more banks across the country. DR. RATNA DE (NAG) : Madam, there is a need to open more and more such banks in rural areas. But the Government has in mind of opening such banks only in metro cities. There is an urgent need to promote women entrepreneurship and active participation of women in economic activities. It would give a big morale boost and also extend impetus to our goal of achieving employment of women. Women Self Help Groups should be given preference by this bank. I would like to urge the hon. Minister to come up with opening of more and more such banks across the country and West Bengal in particular. Thank you, Madam.
