Regarding Manipur Merger Agreement Signed Between Erstwhile King Of Manipur And ... on 28 December, 2017
Sixteenth Loksabha an> Title: Regarding Manipur merger agreement signed between erstwhile king of Manipur and Government of India in 1949.
DR. THOKCHOM MEINYA (INNER MANIPUR): The erstwhile Kingdom of Manipur got merged into the Union of India on 15 October 1949 by an agreement signed between the Maharaja of Manipur Shri Bodhchandra Singh and Advisor to the Government of India Shri V. P. Menon in the presence of the Governor of Assam Shri Sriprakash on 21 September 1949. The agreement was rejected by the then State Legislative Assembly of Manipur and the Agreement was also never ratified by the Parliament of India.
The present state of affairs prevailing in the state of Manipur vis-a-vis the role of the Government of India in this alleged forced Merger of Manipur called for a fresh relook.
Hence, I demand for a structured discussion along with an informed deliberation at present in the context of past development.
