PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to
issue a writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to ban use the caste
t-shirts, caste flag and fire crackers that depict caste-based colors in the car
festival of Arulmigu Nellaiappar and Gandhimathi Amman temples situated at
Tirunelveli Town, Tirunelveli District based on the petitioner's representation
dated 20.06.2025 within stipulated time fixed by this Court.

ORDER

The Writ Petition has been instituted to direct the respondents to ban use the caste t-shirts, caste flag and fire crackers that depict caste-based colors in Page 2 of 5 https://www.mhc.tn.gov.in/judis ( Uploaded on: 04/07/2025 04:24:43 pm ) W.P.(MD).No.17530 of 2025 the car festival of Arulmigu Nellaiappar and Gandhimathi Amman temples situated at Tirunelveli Town, Tirunelveli District based on the petitioner's representation dated 20.06.2025 within stipulated time fixed by this Court.
2. The authorities are bound to follow the provisions of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act and Rules to ensure peaceful conduct of temple festival. There cannot be any discrimination or caste depiction and the rights of the people under the Constitution are to be protected in all respects. Therefore, the authorities of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department in coordination with the Police authorities shall ensure that the temple festivals are conducted in accordance with the Act, Rules and the guidelines issued by the Department as well as by following the customs and practices prevailing in the temple recognized under the Act.
3. Accordingly, the Writ Petition stands disposed of. There shall be no order as to costs.
