Need To Provide Better Infrastructure Facilities To Post Offices In Kendrapara ... on 15 December, 2011
> Title: Need to provide better infrastructure facilities to post offices in Kendrapara Parliamentary constituency, Odisha.
SHRI BAIJAYANT PANDA (KENDRAPARA): Epicenter of natural calamities one after another, Kendrapara district of Odisha State, is ravaged by torrential rains followed by devastating floods frequently-the recent one being in September, 2011. The rural post offices in this region are deprived of basic infrastructure. It lacks iron safes, almirahs for keeping money, the wooden furniture/benches etc. There is an immediate need to repair seepage from dilapidated walls and roofs of the post-office buildings during drizzles. The buildings lack regular maintenance and repairs, where mud walls can collapse any time during rains.
The above sorry state-of-affairs plagues a majority of 268 rural posts offices in the region. The authorities provides only a meagre sum of Rs. 100 per month for the post office building for maintenance. It is high time that the Central Government should look into this serious issue for immediate redressal of the above problems being faced by the rural people of the region for availing of the services of rural post offices.
