Section 18 in Cantonments Act, 1924

18. Oath or affirmation.-

(1)Every person who is by virtue of his office, or who nominated or elected to be, a member of a Board shall, before taking his seat, make at a meeting of the Board an oath or affirmation of his allegiance to the [Constitution of India] [Substituted by the A.O. 1948, for "Crown". ] in the following form namely :-"I, A.B., having become/been elected/been nominated a member of this Board, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful an bear true allegiance to [the Constitution of India a by law established] [Substituted by the A.O. 1948, for "His Majesty the King Emperor of India, his heirs and successors"], and that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter".
(2)If any such person fails to make the oath or affirmation within such time as the [Central Government] [Substituted by the A.O.1937, for "L.G."]considers reasonable, the [Central Government] [Substituted by the A.O.1937, for "L.G."] shall, by notification in the Official Gazette declare his seat to be vacant.
