Section 118 in Calcutta Port Act, 1890

118. Power of Commissioners to sell goods by public auction.- If the tolls, dues, rates and charges payable to the Commissioners in respect of any goods under this Act are not paid,

or if the lien of the shipowner for freight, where such notice as aforesaid has been given, is not discharged.the Commissioners may, and, in the latter event, if required by or on behalf of the person claiming such lien for freight, shall, at the expiration of two months from the time when the goods were placed in their custody, or, if the goods are of a perishable nature, at such earlier period, being not less than twenty-four hours after the landing of the goods as they shall think fit,sell by public auction the said goods, or so much as may be necessary to satisfy the amounts hereinafter directed to be paid out of the produce of such sale.
