Section 39(2) in The Madurai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1971
(2)If the Mayor was at the time of his election the chairman or an elected member of [a standing committee or wards committee] [Substituted by Tamil Nadu Act 26 of 1994.] and Taxation Appeals Committee, he shall cease to hold office as such chairman or member.
