Section 3(1) in The Tamil Nadu Police (Reform) Act, 2013
(1)The Government shall appoint the Director General of Police from amongst the five senior-most Police Officers of the Department empaneled by the Union Public Service Commission for the post of Director General of Police, having regard to length of service, very good record and range of experience for heading the Police Force.
