Section 4(1) in The West Bengal Panchayat Act, 1957
(1)On the constitution of a Gram Sabha or Gram Sabhas in an area as aforesaid, the enactments specified in column 3 of Schedule I shall from the date of election [,under sub-section (1) of section 27, of the first Pradhan of the Anchal Panchayat comprising the Gram Sabha or Gram Sabhas so constituted stand repealed or amended within the territorial limits of the Anchal Panchayat] [Words, figures and brackets substituted for the words and figures 'or appointment of the first Adhyaksha of the Gram Panchayat under section 11 of section 14 be repealed or amended in the area concerned' by W.B. Act 15 of 1959.] to the extent and in the manner specified in column 4 thereof :Provided that until a new assessment is made under this Act any assessment, rate, tax, toll, fee or other imposition which was in force in such area under the enactments repealed or amended as aforesaid, shall continue to be in force and all sums due on account of such rate, tax, toll, fee or other imposition in arrears or accruing shall be realised by such authority as may be appointed by the State Government as if they were due under the provisions of this Act, and shall be credited to such fund as the State Government may direct.
