Need To Fill Up The Posts Of Chairman And Members Of The State Human Rights ... on 4 December, 2002
NT> Title: Need to fill up the posts of Chairman and members of the State Human Rights Commision of Tamil Nadu.
SHRI A. KRISHNASWAMY (SRIPERUMBUDUR): Sir, human rights are highly valuable and essential. There are the State Human Rights Commissions constituted for each State and there is also a National Human Rights Commission at New Delhi. It is a basic necessity that the Human Rights Commissions should function without any hindrance as day in and day out citizens bring cases of violation of human rights for immediate redressal.
Sir, the State Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu is functioning with only one member since neither the Chairman has been appointed after the demise of the previous one nor are appointed two members consequent to the retirement of two of its members. The effective functioning of the State Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu itself is in peril. You know, Sir, very well that justice delayed is justice denied. The failure to fill up the vacancies of Chairman and members of the State Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu itself is against human rights.
So, on behalf of the DMK party, I demand that the posts of Chairman and two members of the State Human Rights Commission of Tamil Nadu should be filled up immediately.
MR. SPEAKER: Shri Vilas Muttemwar.
SHRI DALIT EZHILMALAI : Mr. Speaker Sir, you called my name, but I have not spoken. I have given notice.
MR. SPEAKER: I will call you after him.
