Regarding Problem Faced By Overseas Citizen Of India In Renewing Their Oci Cards. on 19 July, 2019
Seventeenth Loksabha > Title: Regarding problem faced by Overseas citizen of India in renewing their OCI cards.
SHRI THOMAS CHAZHIKADAN (KOTTAYAM): Thank you Sir for giving me an opportunity to present a matter of great public importance through this august House before the hon. Minister for External Affairs.
Sir, several million Indians are residing abroad. The Indian diaspora while renewing their Overseas Citizen of India card are facing tremendous difficulties. As per the existing procedure, when an OCI card holder reaches 50 years of age, he or she has to renew their OCI and resubmit all the documents once again to the Government which they have already submitted at the initial time. This is a difficult procedure especially for older people. When the Government already has the information, including the copies of the relevant documents of such persons, seeking resubmission of all the documents is unnecessary and uncalled for and in fact, a mere waste of time.
I would like to urge upon the hon. Minister for External Affairs to kindly intervene in this matter and instruct the concerned officials to amend the renewal procedure of OCI cards. The requirement for resubmission of the documents may be avoided.
