JUDGMENT
The petitioner, who scored 290 marks in CMAT out of 400, had submitted an application for MBA in the Cochin University of Science and Technology. After group discussion and interview, Ext.P5 rank list was published in which the petitioner is ranked below one Ms.Suragi Sundaran C. The petitioner submits that Ms.Suragi Sundaran C. scored only 114 out of 400 marks in CMAT though she secured 12 marks each in group discussion and interview. According to the petitioner, it is on an erroneous standardisation process that the petitioner, with more than double the marks of Ms.Suragi Sundaran C., has been ranked below her. In Ext.P5 the petitioner is ranked 281 with 37.5892 marks. At the same time, Ms.Suragi Sundaran C. is ranked at 245 with 38.6399 though her CMAT score is only 114. The marks secured by the petitioner in the group discussion and interview are 6 and 5 respectively.
2. The petitioner claims that there is one seat reserved for PMC category and he is eligible for admission under that category. Challenging Ext.P5 rank list the petitioner filed this Writ Petition seeking a direction to the University to publish the rank list by recalculating the normalised score.
3. The learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondent University filed a statement explaining the standardisation of marks and the final W.P(c).No.16985/2019-W 3 marks arrived at by the University, which is reflected in the rank list.
4. It is seen that the petitioner has submitted representations Exts.P6 and P6(a) before the Director - the 3rd respondent.
5. As disputes are raised regarding the standardisation process evolved by the respondent University it would be only appropriate that the representation submitted by the petitioner is considered after affording an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner as well as Ms.Suragi Sundaran C. The learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner would appear before the 3 rd respondent for hearing on 10.07.2019. The respondents shall intimate the other candidate Ms.Suragi Sundaran C. and pass appropriate orders on the representations Exts.P6 and P6(a) within one week after hearing both of them.
The Writ Petition is disposed of accordingly.
