Section 44 in Indian Merchant Shipping (Seamen's Employment Office, Calcutta) Rules, 1954
44. Promotions during voyage may be sanctioned by the shipowners, but such promotions shall be temporary and shall not entitle the seamen to be put on the roster of the categories to which they may have been thus temporaily promoted unless the Director sanctions the promotions permanently in accordance with the provisions of rule 42.
