                               UPON hearing the counsel the Court made the following
                                                  O R D E R

As per administrative order of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India, a suo moto writ petition has been registered on the basis of e-mail dated 25th May, 2024 sent by Shri B.B. Pathak, Retired District Judge, Gujarat.

In the e-mail, it is mentioned that large amounts payable by way of compensation are unclaimed and lying deposited with the Motor Accident Claims Tribunals and Labour Courts. He has stated that in the State of Gujarat alone, a sum of about Rs.2000 crores Signature Not Verified is lying deposited by way of compensation and no efforts are being Digitally signed by KAVITA PAHUJA Date: 2024.07.09 16:37:33 IST Reason: made to trace the beneficiaries to whom such compensation is 1 payable.

For the time being, we issue notice to the State of Gujarat through the Secretary of Department of Law and Justice and to the Registrar General of the High Court at Gujarat.

Notice is made returnable on 26th July, 2024. In the meanwhile, the Law Secretary and the Registrar General of the High Court will take steps to collect the data of compensation amounts lying deposited with the Accident Claims Tribunal in the State as well as before the Labour Courts and the Commissioners under the Workmen Compensation Act, 1923.

A copy of e-mail of Shri B.B. Pathak, Retired Judge as well as a copy of this order shall accompany notice.
