  O R D E R

Justice Nawab Singh, President (Oral):

Smt. Parkash Devi-complainant (appellant herein) purchased four 6-YEAR NATIONAL SAVINGS CERTIFICATE Exhibits C-1 to C-4, (in short NSCs) amounting to Rs.800/- on February 25th, 1992. The date of maturity was February 25, 1998. The maturity values of NSCs was Rs.1612/-. On maturity, the appellant approached the Post Office authorities to pay the amount of Rs.1612/- but for one reason or the other, the amount was not paid.

2. The appellant filed complaint under Section 12 of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 (hereinafter referred to as Consumer Act) before the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Yamuna Nagar at Jagadhri (for short District Forum).

3. Respondents contested complaint by filing written statement denying the averments made in the complaint.

4. The complaint was accepted by the District Forum vide order dated November 21st, 2013 directing the respondents to pay the maturity amount of Rs.1612/- to the appellant alongwith interest at the rate of 9% per annum from the date February 28, 1998 till its actual payment. An amount of Rs.5,000/- was also awarded as compensation on account of deficiency in service, harassment etc. and Rs.2200/- as litigation expenses.

5. Aggrieved of the order, the appellant has filed the present appeal.

6. Shri Om Parkash Nagpal-husband of Smt. Parkash Devi-appellant has urged that the amount of compensation awarded, that is, Rs.5,000/- is on lower side and deserves enhancement.

7. The amount involved was only Rs.1612/- and since the District Forum directed the respondents to pay the said amount alongwith interest at the rate of 9% per annum from the date the amount became due till its realization besides Rs.7200/-, that is, Rs.5,000/- as compensation and Rs.2200/- as litigation expenses, this Commission is of the view that the appellant has been adequately compensated and no case for interference in the impugned order is made out.

8. The appeal is therefore dismissed.
